Art / Design Technology

Art DisplayArt is one of the subjects where all children can achieve and perform. In this school it provides an ideal opportunity for children to be creative, to use their imaginations and to express themselves while having fun.

The school follows the QCA scheme of work and children are taught all the basic art skills, including painting, drawing, modelling in clay and other materials such as cardboard. In addition to this children have the opportunity to learn about artists as diverse as Monet and Andy Warhol. They are also regularly taken on art-based trips to Westonbirt Arboretum, to the Bristol Museum and to Nature in Art near Gloucester.

Each year the school runs an art week in the summer term. A theme is chosen and painters and sculptors are invited into the school to share their enthusiasm and expertise with the children. Other special projects have included the millennium tiles which children designed and made themselves and which are now on permanent display at the school.

Art DisplayAs part of its commitment to the community, children often produce artwork for local display, either in shop front windows in the High Street or in the local churches.

Whenever you visit the school you will nearly always see an aspect of Design Technology taking place. This is often supported by adult helpers from the community. Whether it is making sandwiches or hats, buggies or bongos, the children immerse themselves in fascinating projects.
