Kindergarten

KindergartenThree rooms at the British School are set aside for the use of our pre-school groups. The Kindergarten, which caters for children from the age of 2 years 9 months until they join the school in Reception Class, is open every weekday morning between 9.00 and 11.30 am.

The main aim of the Kindergarten is to enable the children to develop confidence and the social skills needed for personal development, while having fun. In a structured environment children can paint, draw, play with sand, water, and playdough as well as enjoy the wide range of books, toys and dressing up clothes. There is also a selection of trikes and pedal cars for daily outside play.

In the most recent Ofsted Inspection in 2003, staff at the Kindergarten were praised for “relating well to children, encouraging choice and independence and engaging them in activities well so that children are happy, confident and learning through play”.

In addition to the Kindergarten we offer “Tyggers” which is aimed at children in the age range of 2 to 2 years 9 months and their carers. They can enjoy the facilities the Kindergarten offers on one afternoon a week, giving them the opportunity to become familiar with the environment and people before starting Kindergarten. A mother and toddler group called “Pooh Corner” uses the rooms on one afternoon a week. The combination of these pre-school activities greatly enhances the sense of continuity for children who use them and then enter the school.
