Numeracy (Mathematics)

NumeracyOur aim is to deliver the National Numeracy Strategy (NNS) in an exciting way. Children are fully involved in all lessons with a wide range of activities, with every effort to make learning fun.

Instead of following one scheme of work the school picks from the best of a range, including Abacus, NNS Unit plans, and Target Maths. This is backed up by extensive use of ICT to deliver a very hands on, stimulating Maths curriculum.

The high level of teaching is reflected in the consistently high attainments at SATs in Keystages I and II. Our children regularly perform at the top end of the spectrum of Maths achievement. In the past few years a number of British School children have achieved 100% in KS2 tests – an impressive feat. In 2003, one of our Year 6 pupils reached the final stages of the UK National Maths challenge.

A couple of times each year a whole day is set aside for Maths activities. These include games, quizzes and investigations, all of which raise the profile of Maths in the school and are fun for the children.
